Discover More About The City of Pittsburg!
From a coal and fishing settlement in 1839 to a vibrant industrial center in the 21st century, Pittsburg has grown into a desirable community of landscaped parks, recreational facilities, bustling downtown eateries, shopping, new housing, burgeoning job centers, and planned business and commercial development.
Pittsburg is steadily advancing towards the future, with each passing day witnessing greater prosperity than the one before. There is a surge in the construction of new homes, renovated historic homes, new businesses, and a revived historic arts and theater district, all of which are driving the City’s growth and progress.
Furthermore, the local government of Pittsburg has been actively expanding the parks system, improving the roads, recruiting new businesses and employers, reimagining the Waterfront, and creating its own post-pandemic momentum.
As residents, government, non-profit groups, and the business community continue to work together, the rate of progress will only increase.

The City of Pittsburg operates under a council-manager form of government and derives its authority from both the California constitution and laws enacted by the state legislature. All legislative power is held by the publicly-elected, five-member City Council, which consists of the Mayor and four Council Members. All Council Members have equal authority, the Mayor, however, has the additional responsibility of presiding over City Council meetings, signing official documents and performing ceremonial functions.
